WQM in the Chesapeake Bay
The WQM provides five of the measured parameters on the Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System's (CBIBS) Jamestown Buoy, and will be deployed on additional buoys in upcoming months. The system is part of a NOAA effort to provide users with the information necessary to protect, restore, and manage the Chesapeake Bay.

Measurement Parameters
The WQM provides multiple measurements from a single instrument, and is ruggedized to work in both ocean and highly productive freshwater environments.

Chlorophyll fluorescence Dissolved oxygen Salinity Turbidity Conductivity

Other Buoy-supplied Measurements:
• Air pressure
• Air temperature
• Relative humidity
• Wind speed
• Wind direction
• Water temperature
• Significant wave height
• Wave direction
• Wave direction spread
• Wave period
• Average wave height
The WQM's measurements are updated hourly and can be graphed using the CBIBS site's graphing tool.

Chlorophyll A data is used to estimate the amount of phytoplankton or algae.
