Instrument Deployment Cage Use and Care
Your stainless steel cage has been electropolished for maximum resistance to corrosion. However, a fresh water rinse is highly recommended after every use. Pay special attention to bolts, washers, and welded joints, as these points are the most likely to rust or corrode over time. Attach your cage to a sturdy cable with a locking shackle. Do not use your power/data cable for raising or lowering the instrument unless it has been specifically rated for this task.Instrument mounting procedure
- With the clamp bolted to the cage, hold the instrument next to the clamp to get an idea of where the clamp will be located on the instrument.
- Note the orientation of the recessed cinch screws, and remove the clamp from the cage.
- Slide the clamp over the instrument, keeping the cinch screws on a side of the instrument that will be accessible after mounting.
- Position the instrument in the cage, resting its base in the mounting cup.
- Slide the clamp up or down to match the holes in the cage.
- Thread a stainless steel ¼-20 x 1 in. socket head cap screw with lock washer into each hole.
- Tighten until the lock washer becomes flat, then tighten an additional 1/8 turn. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN.
- When the clamps are fastened to the cage and the instruments appear straight, gently tighten the cinch screws. Again, take care not to overtighten.
- Mount instruments first, then route cables.
- Do not bend cables so tightly that they kink.
- Route cables neatly.
- Tape cables tightly to each other and to the cage.
- Leave no loops or lengths that could vibrate, rub, or beat.
